Callison Tighe welcomes Mouratev as an associate
A graduate of the University of South Carolina and long-time Columbia resident, Yani G. Mouratev is the newest associate at Callison Tighe. He will focus his legal practice on litigation.
Mouratev worked as an assistant solicitor in the First Circuit Solicitors office before coming to Callison Tighe. The office serves as prosecutor for Circuit Court criminal cases and juvenile criminal cases in three counties. Based in Orangeburg, Mouratev represented the state in hearings and trials. He coordinated with law enforcement in preparing the cases. His work included drafting legal documents and motions and negotiating plea agreements.
He also served an internship with the Hon. Robert E. Hood in the South Carolina 5th Judicial Circuit in Columbia, sitting in on criminal and civil cases while in law school. He clerked at two Columbia law firms, including Callison Tighe, where he researched and analyzed legal issues. He also drafted motions, pleadings and proposed orders.
White attending from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Mouratev worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Planning and Development Disaster Relief Team. In that position, he coordinated with HUD officials in Washington, D.C. as well as with state and local government agencies. He helped make sure proper disaster plans were in place so federal relief money wouldn’t be delayed when needed.
Before he started law school, Mouratev worked for the South Carolina 5th Circuit Public Defender’s Office, where he coordinated with and shadowed attorneys. He also worked in the insurance industry, conducting research into medical tourism coverage for one company and serving as an assistant underwriter and program manager for another.
Mouratev holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Carolina. He earned President’s List and Dean’s List honors for several semesters as an undergraduate.
