Koutrakos part of panel discussion for SC Bar CLE
COLUMBIA, SC: Demetri “Jim” K. Koutrakos, a member at Callison Tighe, was part of a panel for a recent SC Bar Continuing Legal Education seminar covering easements.
The Feb. 21 program began with a presentation from Richard M. Unger, who wrote “Treatise on the Law of Easements in South Carolina.” The book, the first of its kind in South Carolina, is considered an authoritative work on this complicated area of law. Koutrakos served on the editorial board for the book.
Unger provided an overview of the book to the attorneys in attendance. He discussed important appellate decisions in this area, and he also covered trends and expected directions the law could take.
After Unger’s presentation, Koutrakos participated in a panel moderated by the Honorable Mikell R. Scarborough, Master-in-Equity for Charleston County. The panel discussed the practical impact of recent cases and analyzed new developments in easement law in South Carolina and in neighboring states.
Koutrakos focuses his practice at Callison Tighe on real estate litigation, including title insurance matters. He frequently is retained by title insurance companies to represent their insured lenders and insured owners in complex issues. Additionally, he often provides coverage opinions to title insurance companies.
