Callison Tighe welcomes Butch Barnhill as Of Counsel
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – Edward D. “Butch” Barnhill Jr., an experienced attorney with decades in the legal profession, has joined Callison Tighe as of counsel. He will focus his practice on real estate, business law and probate. Additionally, he is a certified South Carolina Circuit Court Mediator.
Barnhill began practicing in Columbia more than 40 years ago, shortly after he graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has focused his work on representing clients in real estate developments, transactions and litigation. Over the years, he has been involved in some of the largest private commercial real estate transactions in U.S. history, projects involving billions of dollars and millions of acres.
He’s a licensed real estate broker, a credential and experience that allow him to better assist clients with their projects and litigation if necessary. Barnhill is a member of the prestigious American College of Real Estate Lawyers, a by-invitation-only organization.
As a probate attorney, Barnhill helps clients prepare wills and establish trusts. He’s also served as a trustee for estates and has litigated probate issues when necessary. He serves as a real estate consultant for clients interested in putting part of their portfolios into property. He can help them plan and structure the investments as well as complete the transactions.
As a business attorney, Barnhill assists with formation of closely held corporations. Many of these are small family-owned businesses, and he’s developed long-term relationships with some of these companies by serving on their boards of directors. He has helped clients establish 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempt organizations. His work in this area includes assisting several conservation groups.
Barnhill also expands Callison Tighe’s five-attorney team of mediators who stand ready to offer alternative dispute resolution to clients embroiled in civil lawsuits. As a civil court mediator, Barnhill and the others help clients reach agreements that end expensive and time-consuming litigation. His experience in both business and in the law is an asset in this area.
