New practice group, new member at Callison Tighe

A new practice group and a new member are positioning Callison Tighe to better serve the business and commercial clients who are working to help South Carolina thrive.

Sherwood M. Cleveland, a well-known and highly regarded leader in the fields of business, banking and commercial finance, has merged his practice with Callison Tighe & Robinson, LLC. He joined the firm as a member.

Veteran transactional attorneys Michael W. Tighe, Robbie Robinson, Drew English, Mary Dameron Milliken and Jennifer Stone join Cleveland in the new Business & Commercial Finance Practice Group. The firm’s newest associate, Taylor Stanley, will also be part of the group.

The new group was created to broaden Callison Tighe’s well-known capabilities in the areas of business, real estate, banking and commercial finance. The group will provide full services, including everything from conventional bank financing to SBA and USDA government-guaranteed lending. The addition of Cleveland will add further depth to the firm’s practice in navigating complex financial transactions for lenders and developers, as well as in assisting businesses at any stage, from start-ups to established companies.

Cleveland is a graduate of Davidson College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1993 and is co-author of the South Carolina Corporate Practice Manual published by the SC Bar.

He became general counsel to Business Development Corporation of SC and Certified Development Corporation of SC in January 2000. His firm closed more than 1,000 SBA and SBA-related loans through BDC and CDC – roughly $550 million statewide, creating 8,600 jobs. That total includes loans by banks participating with CDC in the SBA 504 Program.
