Biography

Ian McVey was born in Richmond, Va. After graduating from St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, he attended the University of The South in Sewanee, Tennessee where he graduated in 1997 with a degree in history. He also studied at St. John’s College at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. In 2003, Ian graduated from The University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi. Upon completion of a judicial clerkship for the Honorable John C. Hayes, III, Resident Judge for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, he returned to Columbia to practice law. Ian practiced in the areas of real estate, litigation, and residential and commercial mortgage foreclosures prior to joining Callison Tighe in 2006. He became a member of the firm in 2011.

Throughout his career, Ian has spent a great deal of his time in the courtroom having tried multiple jury and non-jury matters to their completion. Ian concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, bankruptcy and related appellate work and is a member of the Firm’s Loss Mitigation Practice Group. His practice includes commercial foreclosures, creditor rights, loan workouts, business litigation, lease disputes, ejectment and eviction actions, construction law and litigation including mechanic’s liens, real property and title litigation, tax sale litigation and general civil litigation.

Ian serves on the executive committee of the Richland County Bar and is the former Chair of its Young Lawyers Division.He frequently lectures on the subjects of commercial and residential mortgage foreclosures as well as on workouts and re-structuring of non-performing loans.
